Our curriculum offers a rigorous, U.S.-accredited education, fostering critical thinking, creativity, and global awareness, helping students meet high academic standards and develop the skills needed for lifelong success
Georgetown International Academy follows a 180+ day school year, starting in August and ending in June. Our Nursery through Grade 12 U.S. accredited curriculum aligns with the standards of private, college-preparatory schools in the United States and abroad. We adhere to the Common Core Standards for English Language Arts and Mathematics, along with the Next Generation Science Standards. Our curriculum undergoes a five-year review cycle, ensuring it remains current, meets U.S. and international benchmarks, supports 21st-century learning, and is developmentally appropriate for each grade level. This continuous evaluation process also ensures that our curriculum stays aligned with similar academic institutions worldwide.
At GIA, our curriculum is designed around a set of academic standards that apply across all grade levels. Each standard includes specific grade-level benchmarks and indicators outlining the skills and knowledge students should achieve by the end of the school year. Our student-centered approach encourages active learning through inquiry-based investigations, discussions, projects, demonstrations, role-playing, group work, and interdisciplinary assignments.
In addition to the core subjects of Mathematics, Reading, Writing, Science, and Social Studies, our program is enriched with Music, Art, Physical Education, and foreign languages, including Spanish, French, and Portuguese. GIA’s unique location in Guyana offers students special educational opportunities, which are integrated into our curriculum.
Our aim is to foster a learning environment where students are challenged to meet high academic standards while developing the skills necessary for success in today’s global society.
The faculty provides appropriately rigorous Nursery through Grade12 curricula which enrich and support the needs and diversity of GIA’s culturally diverse student body. It is the role of the professional staff to provide students with wide ranging and appealing educational materials that encompass an appreciation and respect for different points of view. With our goal of continuous improvement, GIA’s faculty members participate in professional development workshops several times a year based on identified areas of need. The favourable student/teacher ratio utilised at GIA is conducive to individualised instruction, differentiation, flexibility, and the accommodation of mild to moderate special needs.
As a fully accredited institution by NEASC (New England Association of Schools and Colleges), we are committed to delivering a high standard of academic excellence through a comprehensive program that emphasises every facet of student growth and development. Our approach engages students in diverse and dynamic learning experiences while simultaneously nurturing the professional development of our teachers, who are the key facilitators of these educational journeys
