The Georgetown International Academy (GIA), formerly known as the Georgetown American School, was founded in 1971 to serve the needs of the US Embassy post in Guyana, and continues to be one of 193 “American Overseas Schools” assisted by the U.S. Department of State.
The Class of 2026, 9 graduates, 7 nationalities, 3 continents... may have been small in size, but their achievements were anything but. Together, they earned more than 40 university acceptances and continued their journeys across the United States, Canada, and Europe. Surrounded by family, friends, classmates, and siblings, the community came together to honor a class whose journey reflects the heart of GIA's High School. A close-knit, supportive environment where every student is known, valued, and encouraged to thrive.
It’s a tradition that began in 2023 and this year, the Class of 2026 took their turn! The Final Lap is a special GIA tradition celebrating our seniors as they make one last trip around campus together, marking the final stretch of their journey as Jaguars. From their first days at GIA to this unforgettable moment, they’ve grown, learned, laughed, led, and created memories that will stay with them long after graduation. Congratulations, Class of 2026! Your GIA story will always be part of ours.

Read More >>Georgetown International School, a small but growing international school in Guyana, South America, is engaged in a schoolwide learning journey. The aims include building a common vision of quality instruction and student learning that is being implemented with integrity. One part of that vision is authentic collaboration and we are learning ways to engage students in purposeful collaborative learning experiences. In this video, the teachers model the power of this idea for the students while observing the students in a collaborative learning exercise. Our dedicated educators are committed to providing a rigorous and engaging curriculum that fosters critical thinking, creativity, and a love for learning. We offer a variety of Advanced Placement (AP) courses to challenge high-achieving students and prepare them for college.
