Georgetown International Academy reached a major milestone in the 2025– 2026 academic year in its journey to become an IB World School by offering the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. In March, GIA hosted its official verification visit; the final step in an authorization process that began over a year ago.
Conducted by the International Baccalaureate Organization, the visit evaluated the school’s readiness through classroom observations, meetings, and a review of systems and practices. The outcome was exceptional: GIA met all requirements for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme with no matters to be addressed, reflecting the dedication of the entire school community.
GIA has now received its official authorization decision and is moving into the final stages of becoming an IB World School, with the Diploma Programme launching in the 2026–2027 school year. This achievement significantly expands
opportunities for students, offering a rigorous, globally recognized education that opens multiple pathways to universities and colleges worldwide while fostering critical thinking, independence, and international mindedness
Students study six subjects, one from each subject group, alongside the three parts of the DP core: Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay, and Creativity, Activity, Service. The programme runs over two years, DP1 and DP2.
