Immigrating to Guyana involves navigating different processes and requirements that vary based on your country of origin and nationality. For instance, citizens from certain countries in the Caribbean community (CARICOM) benefit from streamlined procedures due to regional agreements that promote free movement (CSME). Nationals from other regions, such as North America, Europe, and Asia, might encounter more detailed visa application procedures, including the need for work permits, employment visa on arrival or visitors visa depending on their purpose of stay. GIA is required to apply for you to enter Guyana under the “employment” status. The wait-time is approximately 4-6 weeks, and the document is usually valid for 3 months. When we receive your approval letter, we will send you a scanned copy, upon entering Guyana, you will present the scanned copy of the letter to the immigration authorities. GIA will continue the process to ensure that you receive the endorsement stamp in your passport. This requires some additional steps, which we will complete as the process progresses. Below are two which are outlined in detail.
REQUIRED FOR LANDING PERMIT APPLICATION- Ministry of Home Affairs
GIA will begin initial submissions to the Ministry of Home Affairs. The passport that will be used to process all of the documents must be used at all times when arriving, departing and re-entering Guyana.
Please note this is the first step in the Immigration support process. The complete process takes about 3 to 4 months. You will be asked to fill out and sign documents for a few Government Agencies that are a part of this process, mainly the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Guyana Passport Office, the Guyana Revenue Authority and the National Insurance Scheme.
REQUIRED FOR CSME- Ministry of Foreign Affairs
A CSME certificate is a document that allows CARICOM Nationals who are skilled personnel to live and work in any CARICOM Member State without a work permit.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, all CARICOM nationals applying to work as skilled personnel in Guyana must do the following:
Present a valid CSME Certificate at the Port Authorities
Before Arriving in Guyana
After Arrival in Guyana
